Laughton & District Society
Family Section

 LD22

Originally the Ladies Section was established in 1957 and held at Blackcap, Firle, and the schedule was arranged by Mrs Mary Pile, Mrs Joy Hecks , Miss Phyllis Phillips and Mrs Ann Gribble, whose families are still involved in the Ploughing Match. This proved to be a success, a Committee was formed and a Children’s Section introduced in 1960.

After a further 50 years, in 2010 it was deemed appropriate to broaden our appeal to reflect the changing roles in society by rebranding ourselves as the Family Section and this now caters for all ages within the Laughton district.

Since 2010, the Family Section has grown from strength to strength. Our main focus is encouraging school children from the local area to attend the day, in particular to learn about the food and farming sector, but also to educate them on where their food comes from and what farmers do. There are produce stalls and classes that the children can enter, making it a fun day out for all the family.

For the rest of the family there are plenty of opportunities and activities to get involved in, including the chance to present garden produce, from fresh cut flowers to home grown vegetables.

Entries are encouraged from anyone in the district who would like to participate and although we are striving to make this an educational event, we very much hope that there is something for everyone  to enjoy at this year’s Ploughing Match.
